Living Survivorship

Beyond the Struggle

For many, living with a medical adversity after initial treatment is harder than the initial treatment.

Many find this surprising. Scott certainly did.

The explanation may be as simple as reactive versus proactive. You see, during the medical diagnosis and initial treatment phase, most people are in reactionary mode if not survival mode. This phase is needed because it identifies the problem and selects the best path forward to recovery. It can’t be skipped.

But afterwards, living out survivorship is a different challenge.

How to move forward physically, mentality, spiritually after the urgency of treatment is over? How to live with an enemy like cancer or permanent disability? How to make the best of your life given the cards you were dealt?

That’s living survivorship and it’s about being proactive.
