Growing in the Struggle
In a blink of an eye, you’re on the defensive and reacting to the unexpected. Or maybe worse, in survival mode. Some doctor you just met says you have cancer, or maybe it’s a rare disease, or surprise injury. The event becomes a trigger point.
Shock, disbelief, anger, and confusion are only a few of the emotions that humans experience. It takes effort not to panic on something you thought would never happen. Then there’s the wait. It can be frustratingly hard to wait to gather test results, wait to get insurance to approve payment, or wait to get a schedule in to see a busy doctor.
By definition, you are a survivor if you have a breath and a heartbeat. However, for most of us, we want more from our suffering. That’s where survivorship comes in.
You are a survivor. The good you do as a survivor is survivorship.
