Measurable – This answers the questions: How will you know you have reached your goal? How do you know if you make progress?

Attainable –  Reality check: Can you accomplish your choosen goal? Are there assumptions that would prevent reaching the goal? Do you have control to reach it or does someone else?

Relevant – You need to know if reaching your choosen goal matters. If not, then self-sabotage can creap in. Does the goal relate or matter to your vision or bigger goal? Will the out come make a difference in your company or life?

Timely – You need to set a end-date for reaching the goal. When will the goal be reached? By placing a time or date, your are commiting action to do the things to reach your goal.
