Business owner and leadership mentor Scott R. Weaver knows what you are up against. The daily fight to balance business and family, figuring out the practical steps not found in books, and driving through the fog of pressure. You can feel the success right around the corner, but business progress seems to be constantly kept out of reach.
Wouldn’t it be great to have access to an experienced and successful business owner with training in advanced business topics and the insight from multiple industries? You would have a leg up on your competition.

Why have a business coach?
There are generally two main reasons to invest in a business coach: faster improvement in your business and faster improvement in yourself. In other words, by being a better business person you can increase your long-time profitability and reduce efforts to run a company.
What does coaching cost?
In my experience, here are the top three costs for coaching.
#1 Time cost – Investment of 2 to 5 hours per week to get full use of business coaching. This time investment is compounded into being a better business owner running a better company.
#2 Emotional cost – I have always said that business is very emotional. Are you willing to overcome fears, embarrassment about past performance and being wrong? Plus, deal with a coach that will call you out over your lame excuses. If that’s not enough, you have to face the highs and lows on your accelerated pace to success.
#3 Financial cost – Depends on the size and maturity of the company, a very rough estimate is around 1% to 3% of gross income (revenue minus costs of goods sold). A closer look sees different types of coaching. The cheapest is DIY (do-it-yourself) paying for books and video courses (estimate $1,000 to $6,000 a year for the serious DIYer). Group coaching generally runs from $750-$2,000 month, and one-on-one is typically $1,500-$5,000 month though famous coaches charge much, much more. Again, business coaching is typically paid by the business and considered an investment.
How to choose a business coach?
I’ll come out and say it. In the business coaching industry, there is a ridiculously high percentage, like 80-90%, of business coaches who have never ran a business. Once I received an unsolicited business coaching offer from a 22 year old kid who read a few business books. Avoid these types of coaches because they end up being very expensive as they gain experience on your time and money.
Okay, here are some key things to look for:
- Accountability to keep you on track.
- Structured, principle based approaches in the program.
- Do they teach people to be better business owners?
- Avoid the latest coaching fads, such as some strategy, “10x growth”, or ‘get more customers’ programs. These types of coaching programs can end up as permanent coaching or lose the benefits.
- Broad business acumen and the ability to actually run a company besides their own.
- Is there real-world experience or just theoretical knowledge?
- What results can they show? Or even better, what failures did they have?
- Personality (or chemistry) match.
- Coaches have different styles and sometimes can conflict with their clients. For example, I don’t coach creatives (i.e. artists, musicians) because I’m too analytic and structured for those free-spirits. However, I have peers that are brilliant to coach creatives.
- What’s not much of a factor in choosing a business coach?
- Industry experience and credentials.
What is the ROI on business coaching?
I wish I could say this is easy. There are five areas where there is a return on investment in coaching: faster progress toward reaching your vision and goals, improvements in relationships (i.e. employees, family), gains in competency, more time freedom, and financial return.
The challenge in determining a dollar ROI amount is that only one out of five return areas are dollar based. Yet, each of the non-dollar areas (vision, relationship, competency, time) ultimately improve company profits.
I think a better question to ask is what is the value I’m receiving? And is it worth it to me to pay for coaching?
“You get me thinking in other avenues, you expand my ‘tunnel vision’.”

“I am so grateful for Scott’s helping me better understand how to ‘think business’ and his critical inputs in our commercialization plan and project description for our grant proposal. Without his assistance, my team would not have been awarded an NIH STTR grant to further my breakthrough heart biologists.”
——Joshua Sakon, PhD Researcher and Professor at U. of Arkansas
“I have been working with Scott for about six months now. I have noticed how flexible he is and willing to see you through any of the struggles and fears that come with opening a new business. I knew the goals I was working towards and he gives clear and solid ways to consider operating your business. He has worked me through to a full set up and a clear view of what my business is able to accomplish. I cannot express how grateful and thankful I am to have been able to work with him.”
——Bee Collins, Yoga Studio Owner
“Scott is able to step into a company as a consultant, efficiently evaluate the current condition and provide focus for the future state, then build a plan to bridge the two.”

I’M COMMITTED TO ACTION – Because talking does not produce profit.
Feel Like You Want to Get There Quicker?
We Should Talk.
If you want to grow your business, you need two things: Outside perspective and time to think.
My style of coaching provides this to you, the business owner. As an outsider, I’m removed from the emotions of the issues and can offer a fresh view, another set of eyes, another brain, and of course another set of hands that can get really practical. I help you get breakthroughs in your thinking by identifying and removing limiting beliefs. There’s lot to be said about clearing out uncertainty and connecting the dots before bringing in the tools and techniques to produce amazing results and productivity.
My clients are good at what they do by building and inventing things to help people. They are bright people who are highly educated by experience or by academia with PhDs and degrees. They’re inventive and they’re serious. They’ve used their talents to build a business from scratch and they can get pretty far, but growing a business has a lot of moving parts.
I help you put together the Lego pieces and teach you the skills so you will continue growing the business with confidence. I have seen 100’s of business plans—even been a business plan judge at business schools—and can combine different approaches to get the unique business solution to work for you. Additionally, I’m not afraid of the complicated things—IP problems, strategy, personnel, cash flow, all of it—I like it, and I have experience with the background to match.
Finally, I have been in consulting and coaching since 2011 and provide a safe space to test your ideas and gain perspective. I’ve helped many, many business owners before and there’s a good change I can assist you on your journey.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you guarantee this will work for my business?
Only you can do that. Are you willing to do the hard work of implementation?
I have the roadmap laid out for you, hundreds of success stories, and very dedicated.
Do I have to sign a contract?
While there is a “basic understanding” agreement to set expectations (i.e. like confidentiality), there is no minimum number of months to sign-up.
Is it worth the money?
Yes! No hesitation with the caveat you must by hungry to put in the work.
Step 1 of the Four-Step is called Fast-start to profit, an approach used on hundreds of businesses to increase business profit, both in revenue and your time.
If I’m constantly putting out fires, how will I find the time to put in the work?
I get it. Like you, I also have a business to run and a family.
Past clients using the Four-Step Program have seen incredible progress by devoting 3 hours of deep and serious work per week to the program. Implementation of improvements is “extra”, but then you are taking what you learned to improve your business while in your business.
How long is the program?
There are two parts of the coaching, the Four-Step System modules and Implementation. On average, it takes business owners at least 4 months to work through the modules. Then another 8 months to implement game-changing, life-long habits for success. You should plan to be a member for at least a year.
My coaching is hands-on and helpful as you are implementing your growth changes.
